Like the idea of delectable food truck burritos without waiting outside in the manic Missouri weather? Then get down to Burritos Bros. at 407 Main St., inside the historic City Market in Kansas City, Mo. This place serves up fresh, mouthwatering burritos dressed to your specific palate.

Sure, the comparisons between Burritos Bros. and Chipotle are inevitable. Both places serve giant burritos ordered in line and built to suit even the pickiest vegan or carnivore. Yes, Chipotle set the standard for the giant burrito eatery, but Burritos Bros. has taken that template and improved upon it by offering options you can’t find anywhere else—Portobello mushroom, blackened shrimp, chorizo sausage and egg and fresh, steamed spinach.

Not convinced to switch your burrito allegiance yet? Locally owned Burrito Bros. opened in October of 2008 with a mission to use only hand picked produce from the City Market and its Saturday Farmers Market. This tiny lunch spot creates fresh salsa in micro-batches every day to “ensure mucho yumminess,” according to Burrito Bros. web site. The kitchen staff takes the extra step of slow cooking the beans, and it pays off. Imbued with flavor normally missing from black beans, these legumes alone are worth the $6.28 for lunch, but they only make up one part of the best giant burrito in Kansas City.

The pork, or carnitas, exhibits a smoky flavor rarely encountered in Mexican-style pulled pork. Maybe it’s the medium fire roasted salsa[1] that provides the meat with a smoky taste, but either way the burrito tips its hat to Kansas City’s barbecue legacy.

If you decide to eat in at Burrito Bros., then prepare for a cozy, snug lunch.  While the eavesdropping closeness of this dining room probably isn’t for everyone, you’ll be so entranced by your delicious burrito that the only sound you’ll hear will be the inaudible groan of your own satisfaction.
