Eminem, Before he was rapping about the hard life in Detroit, drugs, and his little girl, Hailie, Marshall Bruce Mathers III, otherwise known as Eminem, spent most of his early childhood in Kansas City. He was born in October 1971 to a poor, working-class family and shortly after, his father left his family. When Mathers was 12 years old, he and his mother moved to Detroit. There, he developed his rapping career first as Slim Shady, then as the Eminem we know today.
